Bones are coral made, Pearls are eyes

Full fathom five thy father lies:
Of his bones are coral made:
Those are pearls that were his eyes:
Nothing of him that doth fade
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange…

Imagine the power of the sea;
all lives are born from the sea, and those memories are reflected vaguely within women’s womb to this day. The clear, cerulean water resembles the boundless deep emotion and spirit. Within that blue lies the potential of life, and the power of healing and transformation.
pearls and corals
are presumablyone of the most beautiful things human beings have encountered on earth. They are miracles born from the ocean with the likeness of life and the proof of metamorphosis.
The beautiful akoya pearls and corals account for the tales of the sea associated with various ocean currents. Akoya pearls arrived in Kyushu, Japan as they travelled with the current. It also applies to the Netherlands, where various tales and cultures from the foreign country travelled across the ocean. There are traces of festivals associated with the Dutch on the coral islands that take place for more than 400 years, and there are a variety of ocean-related tales that remains untold.
However, unusual things are happening in the sea now. Coral bleaching and mass death of akoya pearls are taking place in Japan since 2019 with a strong influence from global warming, pollution of the sea and destruction of forests. We believe the modern lifestyle has separated us from the sea and nature, causing people to forget the uniqueness, richness and the splendour of the sea.
23 creators living in the Netherlands and Japan express the forgotten beauty and richness of the sea, as well as its fragility and the strength of life by using akoya pearls and corals. This exhibition will be touring from Japan, the Netherlands to Taiwan and Denmark. 1% of the sales of exhibited works will be donated for the conservation of the sea of corals and pearls.
