Based in Amsterdam since 1995. Chikako Watanabe tried to create work by learning from local people, and visiting different countries, cultures and communities. She created art from things she found by chance, using them as tools for a new style of communication. In cooperation with people of different ages and occupations, including musicians, she produced work in which memories and realities are intermingled. Participated in MANIFESTA 13 MARSEILLE Les parallèles du sud (2020), Authored『NETTING AIR – FROM THE LOW LAND』(2018)
作品集『NETTING AIR – FROM THE LOW LAND 空を編むー低い土地から』(2018)

Statement
Katja Prins is fascinated with the relationship between technology and the human body. Specifically engaged with how technology functions as a support structure, she is both anxious and excited about the simultaneously healing-protective and toxic-destructive properties of technology. This ambivalent fascination provides her with imagery and ideas for a fluid boundless world where humans and technologies are hybrid, where humans connect and subjugate themselves to certain power structures in order to fit in this normative society which results in what philosopher Michel Foucault terms as “docile bodies”. Will human species become less like the living and instead more like dead, material objects? What to think of this almost willing objectification of our own bodies? Is the goal disembodiment? A way to escape the temporality of contemporary existence by merging with the support structure?
